Stockmanship - Minimum Standards

There are 3 Minimum Standards from the Dairy Cattle Code of Welfare that outline stockmanship requirements.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and attitude of the stockperson are vital to ensure good animal care and management.

The Animal Welfare Act says that all people that work with animals have a “duty of care” which means they have a personal responsibility when it comes to looking after the animals. The extent of responsibility will depend upon whether the person is a farm assistant or a manager.
